Technical Instructor in Future Materials – Silicone & Resins (0.8FTE) Technical Services
£30,682 - £35,132 per annum pro rata

As Technical Instructor in Future Materials - Silicones & Resins you will contribute as part of a team to the effective provision and availability of specialist equipment and work areas for silicone and resins, in order to facilitate academic delivery, student learning, and Research, Knowledge Exchange and Innovation (RKEI) activities. You will also provide highly skilled technical assistance to students, staff and research specialists from disciplines across the RCA in the provision and exploration of a wide range of resin, silicone and clay-based processes, including casting and mould making.
It is essential that candidates have significant, highly skilled, specialist knowledge of all mould making processes, fast-cast resins and other types of resins. You will also be experienced in clay modelling, model making, and traditional 3D making techniques and processes. Knowledge and experience of COSHH, Health and Safety issues and Risk assessment procedures related to resins and silicone is also essential.

The position is responsible for assisting in running and developing the in-house Rapid Prototyping (“RP”) service, under the direction of the Rapid Prototype Manager. This will include liaising with external companies when required. There is a requirement to be self-motivated, pro-active, advise and support team members and be able to work independently and as a part of an effective team. RTA are seeking to expand our workforce and invite applicants interested in building high quality architectural models.
We would consider applications for an architectural modelmaker with some experience capable of using all general machinery, table saws, laser cutter, etc, with abilities to include CAD work – AutoCAD/Rhino, etc, processing information and with the ability to fabricate and assemble models working with a team.
We have a brilliant modelmaking studio in Stockwell SW4 with easy access to underground, buses, overground and with parking.
RTA was formed by Richard Threadgill over 25 years ago to produce the best architectural models after studying architecture and being partner in Tetra Associates building models for 10 years. We stay at a size to allow optimum communication between the team from top to bottom to enable models to be conceived and built to a very high standard.
