The role will involve working closely with Model Makers and Engineers to produce 2D plans and graphical representations of Wind Tunnel test results using AutoCAD packages. The projects that RWDI work on include some of the most recognizable structures in the world and past projects include building such as The Shard in London and the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. You will gain experience and expand your model making and workshop skills both on the job and through our training and mentoring programme. You will work in multidisciplinary teams on major international development projects in the medical and consumer sectors.

As part of the technician team you will assist in the building of prototypes and models as well as the manufacture and assembly of lab test rigs. You will be working with our model makers and machinists undertaking hand fabrication, rapid prototyping, moulding, CAD/CAM machining and spray painting. We are looking to recruit a full time experienced senior model maker to lead our highly skilled in-house workshop. Working within a large and exceptionally equipped modern workshop you will draw on your experience of both the latest and traditional modelmaking techniques and processes to deliver creatively outstanding models.

You will be responsible for managing the workshop. From establishing initial model requirements to designing models with and for our Architects, making models, providing quotes, programming job bookings and project managing large models and exhibition materials to overseeing workshop health and safety compliance, carrying out material stock checks and arranging workshop machine maintenance and repair.

In addition to your leadership responsibilities, you will be working directly on a variety of projects covering all scales, from large masterplans to full size design mock-ups and exhibition models. You will be required to work independently and as part of a team on a range of high profile projects.

Experience of fee proposals and resourcing would also be advantageous.
