We're looking for a Fabricator for our busy workshop. The candidate should have some knowledge and experience of fabrication and will know the basics of drilling, cutting, forming and shaping materials. The candidate should be confident in using power tools, hand tools and precision equipment to work and fabricate plastic and/or Perspex products. The candidate will be required to read technical drawings in order to plan and carry out the specified fabrication.

Responsibilities

• The role is dynamic, giving opportunities to work in different areas, primarily fabrication but also product assembly, use of industrial saws, line bending, laser cutters and polishing

• Training will be provided in weak areas but a good understanding of hand tools is required and experience with Perspex and plastic fabrication is highly desirable

Requirements

Essential:

• Apprentice/City & Guilds/NVQ/ BTEC /Relevant Industry Experience

• A good understanding of hand tools

• Ability to work alone and as a team interacting with other departments, including receiving direction from management and senior team members

The College of Engineering Design and Physical Sciences is looking to recruit a highly-skilled technician for the wood and model making workshops within the Design department.

Your role will involve providing comprehensive technical support and training to staff and students in the design, development and construction of prototypes and models relating to projects and also in delivering workshop training to undergraduate students.

We would like to hear from experienced crafts people from a model making, prototyping or cabinet making background. Experience in the use of woodworking machinery is essential.

You will be qualified to HNC level/City & Guilds/BTec or equivalent and be strongly experienced. Good technical knowledge and strong interpersonal skills are essential. Experience with CAD/CAM and CNC machinery is desirable.

Dorset Orthopaedic, a leading independent clinical provider of prosthetic and orthotic services, are looking to recruit a SAFO (Silicone Ankle Foot Orthosis) Technician to work alongside a specific training program, within a dynamic and highly skilled team.

The role entails producing custom-made medical grade silicone orthotic products to specific manufacturing requirements and DOC standards with great importance given to finish and accuracy. No previous experience of medical orthotics is necessary as training will be issued throughout although a strong sculptural and artistic ability is paramount. The Dorset Orthopaedic Training Programme provides a structure for career and salary progression (dependant on quality of work, attitude, production rate and awareness of responsibility and communication skills).

The role is offered at 40 hours per week over 4 days.

40 Hours per week

Monday to Thursday 7.30am - 6.00pm

The successful applicant will play a key role in enabling support for students and academics with traditional model making, joinery and fabrication techniques as well as digital methods such as 3d printing, laser cutting, CNC machines, etc.

The post holder is also expected to work with Faculty colleagues to provide expertise and advice regarding viability of projects and resource considerations and be a positive contributor to the wider Faculty Support Team.
