Scale Models Weston Ltd is a prestigious model maker with over 40 years of heritage. Based near Colchester in Essex, we specialise in nautical and marine models but also work across prototyping and architectural industries. We’re looking for an experienced model maker to join our team. This is an exciting role to work with some of the most prestigious names in superyacht and military boat designs.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience creating scale models and a good understanding of the processes required including 3D printing, laser cutting, sanding, finishing, spray painting and reading 2D and 3D plans. 3D drawing in Rhino is also advantageous. At SMW we utilise 3D printers, CNC milling, and other technology to create each scale model to a high standard; the person we are looking for will enjoy a hands-on role, have a meticulous eye for detail, and be driven to create a high finish model.
The candidate will be responsible for producing high-specification components for models either individually, or as part of a team working on sections that will come together in a seamless and functional manner. A keen eye for detail, a passion for creating beautiful things, and a love of anything nautical are all beneficial!
To be considered you will need:
- A keen interest in the model-making industry or a model-making degree.
- A portfolio of previous work or personal projects.
- Meticulous hand-finishing skills and an eye for detail.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Senior model maker to join our dynamic and growing team of highly skilled model-makers at our workshop in Chertsey.
You will be required to:
- Use Rhino, AutoCAD etc. to prepare drawings for model production.
- Use laser cutting machines and SLA 3D printers.
- Spray paint components using a variety of paint types, HVLP guns and airbrush.
- Use workshop machines (Band saw, table saw, bench sander pillar drill etc.) safely and proficiently.
- Use hand skills/tools to assemble model components precisely and with a strong attention to detail.
- Work well in a team, understand technical/architectural drawings and follow design briefs for each project.
Essential Skills:
- Proficient in the use of hand tools and workshop machinery.
- Accomplished in the use of CAD packages, i.e. AutoCAD, Rhino, Revit and similar. (Rhino Essential)
- Training in the field of Model making (BA (Hons) Model Making, Model Design & Effects or similar.)
- Have an understanding of, and ability to read and draw technical /architectural drawings.
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to work within designated time frames set out for each task.
Preferred skills:
- 3D modelling/ Rhino essential.
- Creative outlook and an ability to problem solve within the parameters of the design brief.
- Have the ability to see issues with model design before items go into production.
- Be able to take instruction on a particular project and see it to fruition.

Dorset Orthopaedic, a leading independent clinical provider of prosthetic and orthotic services, are looking to recruit a Trainee Silicone Technician to work alongside a specific training program, within a dynamic and highly artistically gifted team based at our headquarters in Ringwood, Hampshire.
The role entails producing custom-made medical grade silicone orthotic and prosthetic products to specific manufacturing requirements and DOC standards with great importance given to finish and accuracy.
No previous experience of medical orthotics or prosthetics is necessary as training will be issued throughout, although a strong sculptural and artistic ability is important.
The Dorset Orthopaedic Training Program provides a clear structure for career and salary progression for the right, positively driven and highly ‘production orientated’ candidate.
We are looking for applicants with a positive work ethic, aptitude for development and to embrace the world of silicone prosthetics, working with like minded individuals to offer the best service achievable.
The role is offered at 40 hours per week over 5 days
Monday to Thursday 7.30am – 5.00pm
Friday 7.30am – 11.30am

- To possess and demonstrate great hand to eye co-ordination skills
- The ability to plan and prioritise work, keeping to tight and demanding production deadlines, whilst remaining calm and focused on the job in hand
