Reporting to: Workshop Manager
General: Model making is integral to our studio culture and is used to explore all stages of design. We make a variety of models and prototypes in a range of different materials and processes. Principally, we like to make models in lightweight materials so they can be easily manipulated and reworked. These can start off sketchy and develop into sophisticated finished models which are used for us to test our ideas and to communicate them to clients and collaborators.
Purpose: The role of the model maker is to work with the Workshop Manager and the design teams in making models and prototypes. This role interacts with all the design teams within the studio, offering the opportunity to be involved in projects across the studio. The studio has a dedicated space for model making for all to use, which is supplemented by a machine workshop and spray room for use by the model makers only.
