Dorset Orthopaedic, a leading independent clinical provider of prosthetic and orthotic services, are looking to recruit a Trainee Silicone Technician to work alongside a specific training program, within a dynamic and highly artistically gifted team based at our headquarters in Ringwood, Hampshire.
The role entails producing custom-made medical grade silicone orthotic and prosthetic products to specific manufacturing requirements and DOC standards with great importance given to finish and accuracy.
No previous experience of medical orthotics or prosthetics is necessary as training will be issued throughout, although a strong sculptural and artistic ability is important.
The Dorset Orthopaedic Training Program provides a clear structure for career and salary progression for the right, positively driven and highly ‘production orientated’ candidate.
We are looking for applicants with a positive work ethic, aptitude for development and to embrace the world of silicone prosthetics, working with like minded individuals to offer the best service achievable.
The role is offered at 40 hours per week over 5 days
Monday to Thursday 7.30am – 5.00pm
Friday 7.30am – 11.30am
Applicants should have:
- An aptitude for specific detail, technical ability and strong sculpting techniques
- To possess and demonstrate great hand to eye co-ordination skills
- The ability to plan and prioritise work, keeping to tight and demanding production deadlines, whilst remaining calm and focused on the job in hand
- To work effectively and function well within a busy and lively team environment but possess the skillset to work independently to achieve the desired outcome
- To be driven and able to interact and communicate effectively with colleagues, patients and external parties

- Ideally one or more years’ post-qualification experience within a model making or architectural studio.
- Proficient in the use of traditional workshop tools and machinery.
- Some experience using rapid prototyping machines. Laser cutting and 3D printing.
- Ideally proficient in Rhino.
- Highly creative and design orientated with a keen eye for detail and quality of finish.
- Positive, enthusiastic attitude, with the drive to complete all task to an excellent standard.
- Ability to adapt quickly and cope with tight deadlines whilst working on multiple projects across the studio.

We are seeking a skilled and driven Senior Model Maker to join Nothing’s Industrial Design team in Kings Cross, London. You will be a creative problem-solver with exceptional attention to detail and a hunger to bring product concepts to life through physical models.
You will collaborate closely with our designers and engineers to shape the look and feel of our products, contributing toa culture of creativity, excellence, and user-centered design.
Key Responsibilities
- Create high-quality 3D models and prototypes using a range of materials, tools, and techniques, such as 3D printing, CNC machining, manual milling, laser cutting etc.
- Paint and finish models to an appropriate resolution to convey design intent.
- Collaborate with designers, engineers and other stakeholders to understand project requirements, propose novel solutions, and ensure models match the design intent and meet our high standards of quality.
- Use CAD software to receive, investigate, adapt, and propose changes to designs as needed.
- Select appropriate materials and construction techniques for each project, considering fidelity and intended use.
- Perform quality control checks, troubleshoot issues, and independently solve problems during the model-making process.
- Operate and maintain our equipment with care, as if it was your own.
- Maintain a safe and organized workspace, adhering to health and safety protocols when working with tools, materials, and equipment.
- Optional/Bonus: Apply simple electronics knowledge to create models with basic interactive or functional elements. This is not a requirement for the role, but a nice-to-have.
